THE TOURIST is BOO BEE BENZ’s first mini-album. It was released on September 6, 2006.

bokura starts out focusing on the vocals with only some guitar riffs as the background. Once everything is added in, it sounds great. The verses sound nice, almost storytelling-like, but the chorus is the best part in the song. It’s not particularly catchy, but it’s filled with emotion and it sounds great. I love the arrangement here, too.

The first time I listened to One a Half, I didn’t really like it, but now after listening to this album countless times, I really enjoy it. My favorite part in this song is the bridge before the chorus. I do especially enjoy the arrangements in some parts of the song.

bye bye is my favorite track of the album. I love the simplicity of the arrangement and especially the bridge and chorus. The little guitar riffs right after the chorus ends is great. The song starts of at a slower pace, but slowly gains tempo and energy. The best part of the song is near the end, where the instrumentation builds up and the lyrics go “sayonara, bye-bye!”

The intro to fairy diver is probably my favorite intro out of all the songs. Unlike the past songs so far, this one has a slow, melancholy feel to it. The verses are much softer than the chorus; the vocals in the chorus are much more brazen and emotional.

arcadia continues with the slower, sadder feeling. In the beginning, the vocals are rather reserved for them, meaning he doesn’t stretch his voice. As the song progresses, it loses the sad feeling. I love the chorus in this song, where he go up high, but doesn’t push his voice to the limit. I love the guitar melody in the arrangement.

The album ends on a soft note with orange. The first ballad I’ve heard from this group is pretty good. The arrangement really complements the softer vocals and the short interludes are really nice. I love the build up in the middle to another verse.

Takeuchi Katsuhiko’s vocals take some getting used to. You either hate them or really enjoy it. But, you have to admit, they are very distinguishable. BOO BEE BENZ is really a very promising band. I wonder if they will ever get on an indies label. Or if they’ll get a real website. Either way, what they have to offer is some good stuff.
